The Woman and Man Who Planted Trees - A Poetic Project

During the our WEEK 2: The Science, Symbology & Myth Of Trees workshop, our invited guest Heather Ackroyd of Ackroyd and Harvey, made reference to the book "The Man Who Planted Trees" by Jean Giono.

Heather Ackroyd & Dan Harvey

Heather Ackroyd her partner Dan Harvey developed the project Beuys’ Acorns which is in tribute, visaul artist and cultural responder Joseph Bueys.

In the image below, we see Joseph Beuys planting one of 7,000 trees for environmental and social change. He began the "7000 Oaks" project in 1982 with the foresight of highlighting the importance of the natural world in urban areas and to encourage community engagement with nature in their local environments.

Bueys wanted to reintroduce some of the natural forest that had been destroyed by urbanization and city development.

Below you can watch a 2 minute video of Bueys’ oak trees planted in Kassel, Germany with monumental stones, showing us where they in their growth in 2020.

You can see the poetic animation of The Man Who Planted Trees in a previous blog.
