Synergy Slam Poets Muses: Professor Colleen J McElroy and The Cypress. #FlashBlog #Poetry
The Bald Cypress Tree in this image stands at about 80 foot (that's about 6 double decker buses tall) and thrives next to the dinosaur lake in Crystal Palace park.
Professor Emeritus Colleen J. McElroy has a PhD ethnolinguistic patterns of dialect differences and oral traditions, hence her writing style is very much rooted in the local traditions of Southern American cadence and tonality. This is why the form and structure of the poem is deliberate to the speech patterns of those of the deep South.
See our Facebook page to watch Prof. Colleen McElroy speak.
The trees themselves play an important role of stabilising soil and water levels and thrive in marshes and swamp environments.
Living for hundreds of years, Cypress trees symbolize strength, longevity and resilience, rebirth and transformation.
